Faces of Resilience Event Recap 2025 [Music playing] [Text on screen: Kim Bader Founder Dear Nicholas Foundation] Kim Bader: We need the support groups. We need the professionals. We need research, resources, and the courage to talk about the hard things. Resilience isn't always loud or visible. Sometimes it's just getting out of bed. Sometimes it's speaking the truth even when your voice shakes. Sometimes it's putting one foot in front of the other and choosing just to live, choosing to get help. [Text on screen: K. Luan Phan, MD Chair, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health Ohio State Wexner Medical Center] K. Luan Phan, MD: This event means so much to me and my faculty leaders. We work in an academic medical center because it is where we can meet the most urgent needs of our community and deliver the best, most innovative, personalized care that is rooted in the latest research. [Text on screen: Walter "Ted" Carter, Jr. President The Ohio State University] Walter "Ted" Carter, Jr.: We are grateful to have so many committed and caring partners around the table. Addressing mental health challenges is a significant undertaking, one that requires many different people working toward a shared goal. We have that right here in Ohio. And I know that together, we will make a real difference for our students, our campuses, our communities, and the citizens of our state. It is going to make a difference for people all over the country, all over the world. And I think we all should be very, very proud that that is being done right here in the state of Ohio. K. Luan Phan, MD: We need to be a place that serves as a care destination and a research hub to transform the way we approach, treat, and care for those struggling with mental illness and addiction. A center is the model for how this happens in our state of Ohio and across the country. [Text on screen: John J. Warner, MD CEO of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center Executive Vice President at Ohio State] John J. Warner, MD: This new community-facing center is bringing together world-class clinical research leaders with expertise in trauma care, suicide prevention, depression, addiction recovery, and early psychosis interventions, all to help assess the growing mental health epidemic. Under the leadership of Dr. Luan Phan, we've continued to grow our program to help even more patients, including increasing the funding in the center from $2 million to $62 million, tripling the size of the faculty who work in this center, and increasing the outpatient footprint to more than 100,000 outpatient visits just last year alone. Kim Bader: I may be average, but I've learned that none of us are ordinary, that we all carry something extraordinary. We carry that fear, but we carry passion, love, but we carry hope. Hope that tomorrow will be better, that I will be better, that we will be okay.
